Re: NSW DVA

The Blue Mountains "Long-Line PA System" (Lapstone to Bell) uses the voice
of Kaylie Harris from 2WS. This system was installed around 1996 but many
problems with it saw limited use. (controlled from Springwood, Katoomba and
Valley Heights City Rail office). I'm not sure who the new voice on the DVAs
around Sydney is.
A lot of effort went into the LLPA system, and had great potential to be an
excellent system. The sound quality is by far the best I have heard on any
system. Careful attention was paid to volume levels, and when a sentence is
strung together, it doesn't just choose the single word from a list, it
chooses the most appropriate recording of that word. The aim was to get a
smooth flowing sentence. Eg. the word "train" when used at the start, middle
or end of a sentence would sound odd if only one recording was made.
Therefore, 3 recordings with different inflexions have been made for most
words, so that the correct version of each word is used according to where
it is used in a sentence.
