Is it running as a seperate entity which is totally seperate from government
influence, or is it like FreightCorp and still tied in to political whims?
I knew RailCom was being spun off, but I wasn't sure how far it would go. It
seems that now RSA are successfully winning maintenance contracts (such as
the Bondi-Waterfall one) ahead of the astrological tampon company (!), they
are becoming less restricted.
We've recently lost our local signal electrician here at Waterfall, and
perway are going very soon (unless they finished up on Thursday), all due to
the RSA staff rationalisation thanks to them winning the Bondi-Waterfall
maintenance contract... As long as they don't turn out like their competitor
(see above) things should be ok, but there are dark problems emerging with
so much integral functionality which kept the rail system running
harmoniously being thrown to the wolves so-to-speak.
I'm all for privatising non-core services, but some non-core services (like
infrastructure maintenance) cannot be 'rationalised' without resulting in
commensurate safety and system reliability reductions.
Regards,
Craig.
