Re: EE questions

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Ben,
The site is indeed still active, just had little time of late for
updates, but plan to rectify this shortly.
Anyway, it is true that the 1620 have moved on from the Philippines, for
further construction work. it is believed to be either in Thailand or
Malaysia, cant recall at this time.
A seperate posting on this group refered to there being very little
freight on the PNR nowdays. This is now untrue, as two container trains a
day not operate from North Port to somewhere south of Alabang. These are
privately operated by ICTSI, using a GE powered, Indonesian built locomotive
#1. The PNR themselves do haul only the occasional freight nowdays, usually
about once a fortnight. Other recent plans may see an even more significant
rise in container train operations.
For those interested, the PNR 2500/5000 classes, usually used on the local
Metrotren services, are virtually identical to the New Zealand DH Class. In
fact the DH class were originally built for the PNR, but the PNR did not
want them.
Regards
Brad Peadon
