Re: Douglas Park Derailment

Some further clarification from this morning's TV news -

The train was a Brisbane-Melb superfreighter (given the timing, probably
BM2) . A Fire Brigade spokesman said they initially assumed a "worst case
scenario" as the train was believed to have at least one vehicle conveying
cyanide. When it was ascertained that this was not involved, the alert was
scaled down. One container split open and spilt a white powder - now
believed to be fertiliser.

I would assume that NRC would have to comply with "Hazchem" provisions and
have manifests of any dangerous goods conveyed on each train.

It was also reported that Countrylink was having trouble finding enough
buses to tranship XPT passengers. I wondered why they couldn't be diverted
via Robertson/ Wollongong, but Chris has confirmed that this line is also
currently closed. (Any idea why?).

Expect some interesting workings on the South / Illawarra tomorrow or
Saturday once the lines reopens and they clear the backlog!

Regards,

Paul
