G'day.
Summary of this morning's derailment at Douglas Park:
Passing Picton about 06:45, ST2 in Up refuge.

Approached Douglas Park from Menangle Road. The main drag was blocked about
5m from the level xing. The trailing vehicle was obstructing the xing. Three
fire engines & two police cars, with a tape to keep people away from the
line.

The derailed wagons were piled up about 1/2km on the down side of the
station, just at the start of the cutting, blocking both lines. One FCL
container had landed on the Up side of the embankment, back towards the
station. A TNT container was ripped open, and another one was concertinered
into an open wagon. Sundry bits and pieces, bogies etc were lying around, a
result of the shock of the derailment travelling back along the train.

I drove back out through Wilton and came in on Douglas Park drive. I was
able, using back streets, to get within 'standard lens' range of the big
pile up. Several flat wagons were criss-crossing both lines. The front half
of the train was stopped about 1/2km further south. The units were out of
site, in the 'inaccessible' section towards Sheils Hill.

I had no problem getting some shots, in fact the Constabulary were
reasonably helpful, once I asked if it was O.K.

The evacuations talked about in the media seem a bit excessive - the mood at
the site was fairly casual.

Regards,
Lindsay
