Aus loco discussion mailing list
The two freights that collided at Waipahi occured at about 7am today. One
Locomotive Engineer was killed and one is seriously hurt in hospital. I
wish him all the best in his recovery.
News footage on the TV3 national news showed at least three locos, two of
which had severe damage with the other having what appears to be minor
damage.
Also showed was the cab of one loco being pulled apart by a crane to
retreave the body of the driver. It showed a control stand being lifted
clear. The loco numbers on TV were 7254 and 4202 which both sustained major
damage and 5448.
More details will be in the paper tomorrow at the following:-

Deb (for John who is away)
