The following was sent to me by a friend in Newcastle, I'm not sure where it came from.

Railroad's steel deal
On 30 November 1999, Australia Southern Railway ceo, Charles Chabot, spoke of its success in winning a $A33m contract. He also expressed the hope the five-year deal - to 2004 - will lead to further outsourcing contracts. This one involves moving around 3m tonnes of iron ore yearly from BHP's Middleback Ranges mines to Whyalla and carrying product within the confines of its Whyalla steelworks. Australia Southern will buy eight BHP locomotives, lease 100 wagons and spend $A3.5m upgrading the 190km of narrow-gauge track, during the lease period.

Regards,
Chris.
