After seeing an aerial view on channel 9 news, the wheat unit (G517?)
looked to consist only of the front cab and two sides: the trailing cab
and roof have been sheared right off by a rogue wagon. The image was
brief, but it seemed the shell of the loco contained quite a bit of
spilt grain. Definitely a BIG mess; quite probably a write-off. The
other unit (G518?) didn't look anywhere near as bad: I've seen worse
repaired. The anti-climber strips on the fronts of the locos worked as
designed: they still sat cab to cab. What additional strain this must
have placed on the underframes as they were squeezed between the two
sets of loaded wagons (with resultant bending, etc), I can only imagine,
so G518's condition may be more than cosmetic damage.

My youngest brother, Stephen, drove from Werribee to Ararat early this
afternoon: I've just spoken to him, and he said G518 looked to have been
on the ballast, G517 was on the wheat. Both are seriously damaged: from
the TV news bulletins, one (517?) has a wheat hopper in one of its cabs.
Stephen says both units have their roofs ripped open. Also seen was H3
assisting with removing re-railed wagons. A large crowd was out to see
the action!

On the news tonight i managed to see that one of the locos was G518
unable to see any other number. Does anyone else have the numbers of the
other locos.
