Waiting this morning on the freight lines between Flemington Station and
Sydney Markets were about 20 AN wagons and flats containing steel billet.
With the closure of Newcastle blast furnace, I presume these were bound for
the rod & bar mill at Newcastle having come from either the Sydney Mini-mill
or Whyalla.
The wagons were stopped, parked without loco.
At the same location on Monday morning, a rail crane was stowed in one of
the unused Sydney Markets sidings. This could have been used to re-rail the
Tangara which derailed near the Olympic Loop on Sunday afternoon. It was
quite a sight with boom outstretched.
