A RUMOUR going around here is that the L class might be heading over here to
work the Midland line from Christchurch to Ngakawau (coal route), to assist
with the cronic shortage of motive power.  It was mentioned in the Tranz
Rail inhouse magazine a while back that it would require a long term
contract on the coal for this to happen and it looks like it might be signed
very shortly.

Did Westrail ever operate them on narrow guage?
