Aahh! If only life was so simple - into the fray once more.
ASR have been trying to lease locos from NR (DLs, BLs, anything......) for
around two years now without success.
So it is highly unlikley that NR would turn around and hire them to Freight
Victoria unless there was some joint venture traffic in the offing. Given
Marinus van Onselen's (largely justified IMHO) attitude to government owned
rail operator's it is also unlikely that such a scenario would arise.
NR have around 500 container flats (paid for with public funds) in storage
around the country that they will not release for fear of competition (any
responses to this part of the post can go to aus.rail - though you won't
find me there!)
The Freight Victoria livery on the Gs is likely to be modified with the
whiskers extended a little further down the bodyside.
The first of the QR 4000s class have been undergoing load trails somewhere
in the Sunshine State - any reports from someone closer to the action? It
appears the South African Railways are interested in possibly buying some
from Clyde.
NREC Alco at Whyalla have started overhauling four of the L class for
Australian Transport Network - to what level the overhaul will be is unknown.
Cheers
Mark
