There is alot of news/rumors floating around at
the moment, believe them if you wish. but one of them is that the 48 class will
start running into Melbourne from next week. This years canola harvest from
Casino to the Great Northern yard (then trucked to Cargill Brooklyn) train
loading is over the limit for a single 81, and overpowered for a double, so an 1
1/2 combo is going to be used (i.e. 81-48).
There is also rumors Great Northern 27 is going
to be hired to LVR for its NSW operations.
Repainted FV G529 is going to NSW for use on the
log trains possibly next week.
Four Xs are to go on SG for use on the The Rock
- Appleton Dock grain trains. The grain receiving terminal at the dock is not
expected to be finished till about January and may decide the start up
date.
Apparently X52 has been sent to Ballarat for FV
repainting, if so, there are two X's there (X51 & X52). It may be possible
that they are two of the four X's for the SG grain trains. G529 may be replacing
X38 & X45 on the log trains so the X's can be transferred to work the grain
trains.
The rave train was to depart Spencer Street this
morning at 06.00, again with the 422 leading. Last night the train was stabled
at Spencer Street and the loco were fueled by a road tanker. If this trip was
successful up to 16 more trips will be made. There was to be one more towards
the end of this month but has been canceled.
Also, has anyone heard about the RSA auction of
some 44s & 442s.
