Hello,

Today Matthew Smith and I went for a trip to Maryborough on QRs main North Coast line. The day started out with a phone call to Acacia Ridge as we were going to head south to the Cougal Spiral. We didn't as there were no trains going to be around untill 2pm. So it was decided to head north.

On arrival at Gympie North station there was nothing around apart from maxi overhauled 2194F with two wagons in the stabling road and a shunt tractor. It was decided to head to Maryborough. On arrival at Maryborough West we heard the driver of the tilt train Q902 on the scanner get called up by control to be told that the UP Sunlander (A936) was in the platform and would have to wait at the up home signal untill A936 departed. Maryborough West only has one platform.

After the Sunlander had cleared into Yengarie (the next loop south) the Tilt Train left (units 303-304 City of Rockhampton) Tilt Train would have overtaken Sunlander there. Next to go was 2839 on ATP trials between Maryborough West and Netherby. Loco 2839 returned about two hours later and was shut down in No.3 Road. At 12:59pm the woodchip train CG13 Owanyilla to Gladstone arrived about 30 minutes late with 39 class locos 3907-3901 with approx 44 wagons, one VAG grain wagon was marshalled behind the locos. In the yard sat diesels 2302-2315 and 1708D all were shut down. 1708D was stabled on the fork line.

We went into Maryborough and drove to Walkers LTD. The plant was shut down completely apart from SMU 234 sitting in the big shed. It looked ready to come down to Brisbane as it was in full livery and all 3 cars were coupled together. Two 4000 clas loco's were spotted right down the back of the shed. We headed back to Maryborough West and saw the Northbound Tilt Train Q301 with 301-302 (City of Marborough ) units, a quick stop was made and then it was off. On the long drive home a northbound freight with Maxi deisels 2314 and 2309 was sighted at North Arm.
Overall it was a very good day, pity there wasn't more around though.
