Re: [Ausloco] Smaller locos leading larger locomotives (was X.40)



In times past the policy of the GWR was to have the train engine leading
at all times (possible exception would be short distance assisting on
banks) as it was felt that the control of the train should be in the
hands of the crew of the train engine at all times, rather than in the
hands of the assisting crew.

In NSW the situation seems to have varied, in accordance with local
conditions. I have seem the Coonamble Mail with a 36 leading the 38 and
the other way around - different days naturally! Generally, the
assistant lead the bigger train engine.
