G'day all,
Well! Its finally
commenced...
At 1157 hrs today, West Coast
Railways' R711 rolled majestically into Echuca with the first of the forthcoming
monthly runs to Echuca from Bendigo and accompanied by local four-piece jazz
band "Nexus" on the platform. The "Trains to Paddlesteamers et
al" concept has been born! As the immediate past Chairman of the Port of
Echuca Authority, it is the culmination of literally years of `hope and push'
for many hard working Echuca - Moama locals. All that has to be done now is to
re-connect the 800 metres of track from the mainline to The Port of Echuca wharf
area and the R class will then steam to the Port wharf to disembark its'
passengers each month. Then, just a short walk down the steps is required to
enjoy the "Mighty Murray" and its offerings of the steam-powered
"Pevensey" or "Alexander Arbuthnot" or "Adelaide"
(oldest wooden-hulled paddlesteamer in the world) or the "Emmylou".
The trains' consist is BK 700 (ex
SAR), BK 714 (ex SAR), BS 205 (ex VR), BRS 229 (ex VR), a somewhat externally
untidy ACZ 252 (ex VR), RMS 2360 (ex Southern Aurora Diner) & baggage PCP
292. All in West Coast Rails' "paintjob" (although its close to a
LIVERY - some bogies are grey!).
Watching over the arrival, were G523
+ X44 off last Fridays 9083 Melb - Deni goods and X32 which was last Fridays
local jobs loco. G523 will work the goods to Deniliquin at 1300 hrs (usual
Sunday arrangement) and will return into Echuca ex "Deni" at 1800 hrs
'ish and team up with X32 to work tonight's 9084 to Melb. X44 stays over for
tomorrow's Moulamein & Deniliquin jobs.
R711 & consist should depart
southwards after the down Sprinter has arrived at Echuca at 1545
hrs.
Do you detect a hint of pride? You're
right...
See ya
