Re: Loco 108E

At least Loco "108E" was sort of recognisable.

Some years ago, some pranksters at the RTM temporarily renumbered 3001T as
3801 (brass cabside numbers and all), and ran it as lead loco on a triple
headed tour to Unanderra -Robertson-Moss Vale. 3801 was originally booked
for the trip, but had failed, and 3001 substituted as the third loco. It
also carried a headboard that read "We Deliver" (the Aust Post slogan).

Everyone thought it was a great joke, but it backfired. A few months later,
the former Sydney newspaper "The Sun" carried an article about railways,
and included a reference to the Newcastle Flyer and "famous locomotive
3801." You guessed it, the accompanying photo was a cabside shot of the
renumbered 3001T!

The "future historians will rely on this" argument about accurate reporting
in rail magazines would have great fun with that one.

Regards,

Paul
