Actually the "red", was a very burnt red and was moving towards the orange
spectrum.  I photographed a number of WAGR locos in this scheme, including
X1025 at Midland.  I think it was a much better scheme than the final orange
used, although nothing can surpass the n.g. green and red or the original
standard gauge colours.

I believed that the "red/orange" scheme had problems with toxicity and the
workers placed a ban on its use.  This then resulted in a number of units
running around in pink undercoat for some time.  (I know of at least 2xL's,
a F, a Y and a number of X's were issued to traffic in undercoat).
