There is a sightings mailing list for just such messages. It's for:
1) Notice of things about to happen in the next 24 hours. Any further into
the future than this, you can use aus.rail.
2) Things already underway. (i.e. get your camera ready down the line)
3) Things just happened which may require quick action.
General discussion on matters arising from the list should also be directed
to aus.rail.
