The new microsoft game got a mention on a few of the game review sites as well
However, it wont be out for a while.

This game is going to need a fast PC and 3D card!

The game even has double headed locos (BNSF Dash 9's)

There are already a few real train games that have been out there for a while

The closest to the new microsoft game I have seen so far is 

3D railroad master

The only unrealistic thing in the game, is that there is a damage indicator in the cab.

Get the demo from www.abracadata.com. Most of the good download or game sites shoudl have it as well

Abracadata also make a few other train games and programs.

Also I should mention Railroad Tycoon II  - The Second Century and Transport Tycoon Deluxe
