How many cars did the N's handle through the Adelaide Hills?
Single N (2400 hp) + 11 cars I think.
A "G" / "BL" (3300hp) should have little trouble handling 15 cars (about 750
tonnes)
We used to take 13 Cars on the SOP (650 tonnes) with an X (1800 hp), our
speed up Heathcote and Tallarook would be about 50 kph though!
Today I hauled 9691 [ G536 + 14 trailing 302.1 meters and 550.1 tonnes] up
from Jacana to Tallarook and made line speed easily on all hills of 80 kph,
despite crosses at Somerton and Wallan via No 2 rds both times.
Gee, I still remember Firing with George Lynch on S317 plus 950 tonnes and
speeds so slow I would get out and place ballast in front of the Loco to
keep it moving up Tallarook, at about 3 -5 kph and fully in the red :o(
