Re: [Ausloco] Re: Sightings
Hi
Without trying to buy into this too much, I concur with what Peter says. In
a rail industry where change is so rapid, nothing is that ordinary any more.
For the system I model, the Pt Lincoln Division of AN, there is precious
little photographic evidence of the regular freight trains that worked there
in the 1970s. I suppose at the time, it looked like long trains of tarped
open wagons would be there forever. Not so.
Instead, most of the photographs seem to be of a tour train called the 'West
Coast Wanderer' which ran in 1976. Now this was a nice train, and it's good
to see lots of shots of it, and the tour resulted in a fine ARHS Bulletin
article by the late Kim Bird. But if you relied on photos and the meagre
reports alone, you'd get a pretty distorted picture of that system. So I
welcome the 'mundane' reports. They may seem pedestrian now, but in a few
years, I reckon we'll be glad someone bothered.
Cheers
Ben
