It was the down Ghan as i saw it head out at Redfern and go down the
Illawarra dive. The Tangarra that derailed was meant to wait in the centre
track and allow the Ghan to pass.

My understanding is that it was the Down Ghan (WL3) which had become
trapped behind the derailment while heading west via the Bankstown line. If
you saw it at 1530, this sounds about right. The 81 was sent to tow the
Ghan back to Canterbury where it could be rerouted via Enfield.
