Re: [Ausloco] ATN test run on Friday?
It seems that the L's were not power tested before delivery, and they will
go to RTS to be tickled back into reliable running by the Brothers Kemp and
associates. I am told that the problems they are having are understood, and
all that is needed is adjusting and testing. I am assured that they are in
much better condition, than shown over recent weeks. Another problem seems
to be associated with the new Hoppers. One test load of 72 tonnes per
wagon, down the hill towards Port Kembla was supposed to have caused the
crew some concern. I heard that the thing would not stop, and if it was not
for the fact that the Dynamics held, they worried that it was going to run
away! I did hear this second hand, but my source also added that all the
hoppers were being modified to change the leverage of the brake gear, to
improve the braking of this train. My contact also criticised the grade of
steel used in their construction, noting that during these modifications
they were easily blowing holes through the plate with the gas torch!
