The Overland reduces to three days per week in Feb but appears to be
still running until after Easter. With the Wed Ghan that means four
services per week between Melb and Adel. GSR appear only interested in
tourist trains and not regular trains. What we appear to need in
Australia is Austrak (not the radio on the Nullabour nor the company in
Junee) but the Australian equivalent of Amtrak. Passenger trains in
America would have all ceased by now if it had been left up to the
private coys. Same is happening in Aust and we are probably giving them
a subsidy to aid them in their endeavors.
