I have also been to Didcot and experienced the same thing as you noted. But
mosst HSTs stop there now and a lot of the fun has gone. I was there last
October.

BUT a heary experience was standing on a platform at Finsbury Park just
north of Kings Cross, London, and having a very hard working HST go past
you at plus 110kph - very noisy!! There are still a few HSTs working on
that line among many electrics.
