HST(XPT) Horns

Aus loco discussion mailing list

One of my enduring memories of a visit to the UK in the eighties is standing
at Didcot station (ex-GWR). Straight, level track in both directions, HSTs
(XPT design starting point for those who don't know) coming through at
100+mph (160k) and sounding the horn seemingly miles away when only just
visible, then flick, flick, flick and gone into the distance again. Very
fast and impressive.
