Evening all,
The latest issue (January 2000) issue of 'Newsrail' has a photo section on
the two damaged G class (including the front page). It is a amazing that
the locomotives could receive so much damage and yet the two cabs that received
the head-on impact are relatively intact. It is a credit to their safety
design.
Regards,
Mark

Both G 517 and G 518 will be written off. G 517 is the unit that suffered
the most damage and is currently stripped of most parts. G 518 has a
slightly twisted frame.

at Dynon G517/518 from the Ararat crash were out the back
of the Dynon diesel shop on the track closest to the road. They
are on their bogies and chained together (no couplers or pilots)
and chained to Y124. 518 is engineless and you would have
to say the crew were very
lucky.
