Yeeeehaaaa Express

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Yeeehaaa, all,
Have heard a whisper that the RTM (Rusty Train Museum?) are running a
charter trip from Melbourne to Tamworth for the Aust Country Music Festival.
As far as I am aware, the empty cars leave Picton around 1800 friday 21/1
and arrive in Mexico City during the morning of sat 22/1 for a quick
turnaround & head back north about 1.5 to 2 hours later.
The train is due thru Picton during the early hours of sunday 23/1 and runs
via Flemington to the main northern line with arrival at Tamworth mid
afternoon.
The train stables in the vicinity for around a week before setting sail for
points south on the following week-end. From memory it sets down its
passengers at Spencer St on the evening of Sunday 30/1. The empty cars are
then returned to Thirlmere during the morning of monday 31st Jan
(unfortunately my first day back at work!)
Motive power is suggested to be 4490/4201/44211 but could change prior to
departure.
Once again, the "mexicans" will have the advantage of the most daylight
running the train will be doing, apart from the main north in NSW.
There is another subscriber who has more accurate times etc, this may prompt
him to post same.
Can't half tell I am a one-eyed country music lovin' train chasing New South
Welshman,eh???
Yeeehaaa for now, bootscooter.
