Alice Floods, 11/2-14/2

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Hi to all from Alice Island! Heaps of rain since last Tuesday (causing
numerous road closures south of town) finally began to affect the
trains.

5AL7N (due about 7pm Friday evening) wasn't in after 8pm, but had
arrived by Saturday afternoon: NR38 had joined NR104 and DL39 in the
yard. Similarly, 6AL7N didn't arrive as tabled on Saturday evening - I
did hear a story that a train arrived about 8pm yesterday: the presence
of two more NRs this morning confirmed this.

1LA6N didn't depart yesterday morning; NR75 / NR92 were on a dozen or so
Mereenie tanks and a big string of containers (including about 3
double-stacked well sets) awaiting departure this morning (seen, 0620
and 0715; gone by 1000), which is 1LA6N's loading. There is not a
rostered departure on Mondays. Also unusual is that this departure was
from the southern / western roads of the yard (where the Ghan arrives /
departs), rather than the northern side.

NR38, NR104 and DL39 are still here.

Regards,

Peter Donaghy
