Re: Vic Traralgon line

Aus loco discussion mailing list

The list was for weekdays only. Weekends are quite different, besides a few trains in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Paper train is the only train to run on the weekend in daylight. The down usually passes here (Murrumbenna) just after 14.00 on the down. It returns on Sunday and passes around 18.30 on the up. The up on the Sunday is the only opportunity to get sun on the nose of the train as all other trains are back-lit, with the weekday down Paper train being the worst (completely back-lit all the way to Morwell except for the Maryvale branch). Well if you want to go out tommorow green A81 should lead A79. The conditional "mini" Pioneer is the only other train to get sun on the nose, but this train is a very rare runner. For months none are seen then all of a sudden up to four a week can run. About six months ago one of these trains ran on a Saturday. A few months ago there was a extensive Briquette contract from Hazelwood to Marybynong River. These trains ran on both Saturday and Sunday with one each way on both days. They all were in daylight.

Hi Michael.

Very much so. I've been planning to photograph on the Traralgon line for some time, but not wanting to go on a wild goose chase at the wrong time of the day. One question, though. Are most of these trains Mon to Fri only, or are there some on weekends? I'm stuck waiting until the next school holidays if they're M-F only.

I used to live in Morwell, but it was basically all L class then, and sadly they were so mundane and my passion for trains not fully ignited, with the result that I never photographed any.

Thanks,

PS I tried to respond off line but couldn't get a return email address.
