They were both elephant style.
Further to the 40/43 mu test, more details can be found in Ron Preston's
"Green Diesels" book. This makes the point that the manual transmission 40
class had to lead but otherwise could multiple with any auto transmission
unit provided a 21/27 pin mu adapter was available (apparently an engineer
made up such a device for the unofficial one-off test).
