If I remember correctly from the news last night it was 2012. I'm glad it didn't happen on Monday while I was standing at Spring Hill waiting to photograph the XPT or I may have needed the brown corduroy trousers.
The news stated it was an empty log truck driven by a 72 year old man who ignored or didn't see the crossing lights. Lucky there wasn't a freight waiting on the up line as there was on Monday.
Regards,
Chris.

This news would now be a little late, but we've had the electricity out
for much of the afternoon in Orange, and my computer is just back up.
Today's Dubbo-bound XPT hit a truck at the Spring Hill level crossing
(you left a couple of days too soon for all the local excitement, Chris
Stratton!) just before noon, and derailed the leading power car. The
truck driver and two passengers were slightly injured, one side of the
pointy front of the XP was smashed off / crushed in, but damage didn't
look too extensive.
