re:BrokenHill/Griffith pass

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Evening All

Saw a press release today confirming the fact that the Broken Hill and Griffith passenger trains are now cancelled. The Griffith service will be provided by a road coach for the next few weeks after which an explorer will take over the run. The Broken Hill pass will be covered by the two Indians and the Gahn plus the Daily road coach service ex Dubbo. These arrangements are to stay in place until the arrival of the new loco hauled cars due for delivery in 18 months. The question remains what will haul these cars? In 18 months time the majority of the XP power cars will probally be re-engined. Could it be possible that one XP power car could work this train straight to Broken Hill, then turn on the turntable and head back East. The only problem there would be the fact that on it's way back to Sydney it would have to go via Orange East Fork rather that down to Orange station.

Dave
