Anything is possible, as proven by West Coast Railway which has diesel controls
fitted to an R class steam locomotive.

However, so far as freight Rail Corporation is concerned, there are two crews -
one controlling the diesel banker/s and the other crew controlling the electric
locos. Also, it makes it slightly easier at Waterfall when the diesel banker
is detached!

In years gone by when quad electrics would detach two units at Waterfall (on
the down - as the remaining double could haul the load through to the Inner
Harbour), and if a second similar quad was following, the first quad would have
two crews (one set riding passenger). On arrival at Waterfall, one crew would
detach two units to await the arrival of the second train. On arrival of the
second train, that crew would detach the second lot of bankers, amalgamate and
return the four bankers to Enfield.
