G'day.
42 wagon coalies, electrically hauled, have returned to the South Coast.
The first observed working was yesterday, Tuesday 4/4, when 8134 led
4/86
class through Sutherland at around 1320.
The second observed working was this afternoon, Wednesday 5/4 at
approximately 1315, when 8175 led 8633, 8636, 8641 & 8626 through
Sutherland. I am fairly sure that these were the same 86 class as
yesterday. Certainly, the trailing 86 on Tuesday was 8626.
I may be mistaken, but it does appear that with the 81 class, the 86s
are able to maintain a higher speed on the 1 in 40 grade, compared with
the speed of the 4/86 hauling 33 wagons.
Still, I prefer the three 86s with two howling 422s on the 1 in 40 with
the 42 wagon load!
Regards.
Hunslet.
