As I recall 8018 was never used by BHP and didn't even go onto BHP property.
It was sent to Port Kembla loco at the time to be used as a source of spares
for 8015 and 8039 that were on trial. I have always wondered why BHP decided
not to accept keep these units after the trail.

Quite a pleasant surprise. 8039 was still equipped with the stobe light and blue marker lights when it was used by BHP. Is there any reason why 8018 never returned to service after being trailed by BHP. It now lives with the three rail tractors at Port Kembla. I'm not sure but did it suffer a major failure whilst being trailed. Other locos sighted yesterday were :8184 - Goulburn on a limestone train 9am - not there at 2pm though the wagons were8158, 8607 - Enfield at 4pm8163 - Botany 5pm Didn't quite reach my alco quota for the day, but theres always tomorrow !Chris.
