I would like to thank the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre and
Lionel Camilleri for their assistance with this project. For more
information about the SRHC, please visit http://www.srhc.org.au/

I would also like to thank Russell Beer, Richard Lauder, Matthew
Austin, Ian Bowles, Yuri Sos and Lionel Camilleri for beta testing
this model.

Ian Bowles has spent many hours developing more realistic brake
and physics values for all Australian MSTS rolling stock. This
locomotive uses his brake and physics upgrades.

The articles on the T class by Jim Leppit that were published
in the "Australian Model Railway Magazine" December 1990 and
February 1991 issues were used as a reference source while
constructing these models.

Specular lighting enhancements added with MSTS Shape File

This model was produced using Train Sim Modeler v1.1.

About the prototype:
--------------------

The T class were the most numerous class of diesel in Victoria and
although their numbers have declined over the years from the original
94, they can still be found scattered around the state. The T classes
were built in a number of different batches with three major variations.
T320 - T346 were very similar to the standard 69 tonne 8-567C engine
EMD G8. These entered service between August 1955 and December 1956.

The next batch (T347-T356) was similar to the first series but had a
higher cab. The first of this type entered service in June 1959.
Another batch of high cab locos was ordered and these featured a
deper radiator. This became standard on all future orders. The
second batch of high cab T classes entered service between December
1961 and May 1962.

To improve the visibility from the cab, T367 onwards featured a lower
short hood. The short hood T's were built in several batches from
February 1964 to November 1968. T367 - T386 and T387 - T396 were built
with 567CR engines, while T396 - T406 and T407 - T412 featured the
645E engine.

A further five units were delivered between December 1968 and March
1969. They were almost identical to the final series of T class locos
except they had 12 tons of ballast added to increase their weight to
80 tons for use with the hump shunting facility at Melbourne yard.
These locos were originally delivered as T413 - T417, but they were
quickly re-classified to H1-5

In 1956 The Australian Portland Cement company at Fyansford, near
Geelong purchased a G8 for 1067mm gauge service on their private
railway line. This locomotive was acquired by the VR in 1967 after
a conveyor belt replaced the Australian Portland Cement company's
railway. It was converted to 1600mm and entered service on the VR
as T413. This was the only member of the class that was fitted with
dynamic brakes and was used over the steeply graded Cudgewa line
during the 70's.

In the 1990's surplus T class locos have been purchased by private
operators and some have been allocated to enthusiast groups.
Australian National also acquired T 401, 403-407 in 1992 and they
became the CK class. Great Northern Rail Services purchased T 372,
373, 376, 377 and 381 in 1994. 373, 376, 377 and 381 have all
entered service. 372 was scrapped for parts. GNRS also leased
privately owned 'Flat top' T345, which was formerly used with the
Great Southern Railway Group at Nyora. Unfortunately, GNR was hit
with the public liability insurance crisis in late 2002. Their T
class locos have been sold to CFCLA.

T320, 357 and 378 were allocated to the SRHC for preservation in
operational condition. The Victorian Goldfields Railway have
preserved T333 in operational condition. Steamrail was allocated
T356 and T364. They also purchased T395. All three locos are now
preserved operationally. T413 is now preserved by 707 operations.
The Great Southern Railway at Nyora was allocated T342. Mornington
Railway Preservation Society have preserved T334 and 411. T341 was
purchased by the Yarra Valley Tourist Railway at Healesville. T367
went to the ARHS museum and T387 was acquired by the Yorke Peninsula
Rail Preservation Society in South Australia. West Coast Railway
also have three T class locos.
