This model was produced using Train Sim Modeler v1.1.
I would like to thank Ian Bowles for the many hours of work he
has put into developing more realistic brake and physics values
for all Australian MSTS rolling stock. This locomotive uses his
brake and physics upgrades.
Peter Bermingham's excellent books "The ML2 Story" and "The A7 Era"
were used as a reference while making this model. Without these
books, I doubt that I would have been able to model such a
difficult locomotive.
The train-sim.com cab design forum was a useful source of
information, Especially Christine Sweetnam's thread about
her S class cab.
Specular lighting enhancements added with MSTS Shape File
Manager. http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/
About the prototype:
--------------------
Following on from the success of the 40 class locomotives, the
NSWGR ordered 20 single ended mainline locomotives. 10 were ordered
from Clyde and became the 42 class. The other 10 were ordered from
AEI and became the 43 class.
4201 entered service in November 1955. As more entered service,
they were used on the Brisbane Limited and the NSW section of the
Melbourne Express. During the late 1950's, complaints were recieved
about the level of noise from the 42's while working the Brisbane
limited. Therefore, the 42's were eventaully allocated to Sydney and
mainly worked on the southern line for the rest of their service
lives.
4202 became the first to be withdrawn in 1979. 4204 was the last in
1983. The 42's were only painted in variations of the indian red and
yellow livery with the exception of 4201, which was overhauled and
painted in a special green and yellow livery for the 125th
anniversary of NSW railways in 1980.
4206 was the 100th diesel locomotive built by Clyde.
4201 is preserved operational at the NSWRTM. 4204 is preserved
operational by the LVR at Cowra. 4206 is stored at Dorrigo.
