Jack Smorgon (Chairman)

Appointed Chairman of the Committee for Melbourne in 1995. Involved in the Smorgon Group of Companies from 1954 until 1995. Managing Director Smorgon Meat operations 1975-1991. Two years as Chairman of the Meat Council of Australia; Member of the Board of the Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation 1990–95. Served as Chairman of the Victorian Government’s Melbourne Transport Hub Study Private Sector Reference Group and was member of the Victorian Strategic Transport Study in 1992. Chairman of the Australian National Railways Commission 1995 –1998.

 
Rod McGeoch

Chairman of the Committee for Sydney. National Chairman of Partners, Corrs Chambers Westgarth since 1994. Chief Executive, Sydney Olympics 2000 bid until 1993 and currently Director of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. Chairman of Australian Grown Properties Limited and FXF Management Limited. Deputy Chairman of Australia Pacific Airports Corporation Limited and board member of Ramsay Health Care. Mr McGeoch is also a member of the International Advisory Board of Morgan Stanley and a trustee of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust.

 
Dr John White

Global Chief Executive of Visy Industries. During 1979–1983 employed by Woodside Offshore Petroleum Pty Ltd, with extensive involvement with Australia’s North West Shelf Development. In 1988 appointed Chief Executive of AMECON. In 1992 appointed Chief Executive of Transfield Defence Systems. Headed the teams which successfully tendered for the purchase of Williamstown Naval Dockyard, completion of the Australian Frigate Project and the $3m ANZAC Ship Project.

 
Denis Byrne

A Brisbane-based lawyer and consultant with wide experience in the commercial, corporate, finance and resource areas. A key adviser in some of Queensland’s major infrastructure projects, including the Mackay Sugar Refinery and associated ports facilities and the Ballera to Mt Isa gas pipeline. A consultant to the Surat Basin/Dawson Valley Project. A member of the Takeover Panel. Chairman of the Horticultural Industry Alliance Steering Committee.

 
Peter McGregor

Director, J.B Were Corporate Services. Senior investment banking executive with extensive experience in privatisation and infrastructure financing. Closely involved in the floats of Transurban City Link, Telstra, United Energy and Australian Infrastructure Fund. Member of Committee for Melbourne Infrastructure and Development sub-committee.

 
Ron Finlay

Principal of finlay consulting and specialist in negotiating and leading major infrastructure projects. Formerly a senior partner and managing partner of Corrs Chambers Westgarth. Responsible for a number of major projects such as the New Southern Railway (Sydney Airport rail link), Brisbane International Terminal, acquisition of Melbourne Airport for APAC and SOCOG’s role in the Sydney Olympic Stadium. Formerly NSW Government appointee on the Central Sydney Planning Committee (responsible for all major city planning approvals) and the Darling Harbour Authority.

 
John Morschel

Non Executive Director with Westpac, CSR, Comalco and Tenix. 27 years with Lend Lease finishing in March 1995 as Managing Director. Three years with Westpac as head of Australian banking operations and Executive Director.
