Not true at all. Due to 8207 being disabled by a carriage defect between
Terang and Warrnambool, we (at short notice!!) had to terminate 8217 at
Colac, and run 8232 from Colac using that set of loco/cars (with busses
to/from Warrnambool). The turntable at Colac is booked out, 8217 had S311
solo out of Melbourne, we couldn't turn it to run on 8232. Hence X47 (also
a "one-way" loco) had to be attached as second engine at Geelong (facing
Melbourne), so S311 led to Colac, and X47 led back to Melbourne. Both
loco's powered in both directions. The same crew took it down and back.
I'd be almost certain that was X47's first run on a pass, and also it's
first run on the Warrnambool line.

Both are departure shots at Geelong station (where I was working).

Craig.
