G'day,

A Comeng pulled down the overhead on the up side of Newport, on the down
line some time late this arvo (Mon), i'd reckon around 4pm.

I was on pass 8236 15:40 ex Geelong (and lets say I had a very good view
from my seat....Honk! <vbg>), all went well to Werribee, whe we arrived
at 16:13. The up spark in front of us had stopped about 400m on the up
side with brake problems, he got going and we departed at 16:18. Then
we heard the overhead was down at Newport, the spark in front of us was
terminated at Laverton, so we got stuck sitting at Aircraft (16:26-42)
while it reversed. Noted H3 dropping ballast at the new Galvin siding
there (they must've put the mainline points in over the weekend), then
we get to Newport South and are told we're going via Brooklyn.

We picked up a second person and the staff at Newport (Brooklyn line is
not cleared to DOO), ran via Brooklyn, Tottenham, (crossed a down pass
at Totty B), Bunbury St Tunnel, back onto the pass lines at Sth
Kensington, arrive MSS 17:28 (nearly 2 hours from Geelong!).

At Newport, a down spark had pulled down the overhead and was hence
disabled, then another Comeng came up behind him and pulled more of it
down! Right in the middle of afternoon peak! D'Oh!

Cheers,
CH.
