The train you saw is almost certainly 9083 which is the VLF train from
Appleton Dock to Deniliquin. It is tables to leave Appleton just before
midday [usually with a large load of empty rice containers ex the docks] and
arrives at Tottenham to pick up grain and other loading for
Bendigo/Echuca/Deniliquin. It leaves Tottenham at 1430 and regularly has 50
+ vehicles. Quite a train to photograph.
