80 class units return to the south

Over the last two nights I have seen a few interesting sightings
involving 80 class units heading south. On Tuesday night I passed an
81,80, and a 48 class heading sth at Cambletown at approx 10pm with a
diverted Manildra train off the west. I understand it was diverted via
the south to Moss vale due to the trackwork. Last night I passed an 81
and an 80 class on a rake of fuel wagons again at approx 10 pm at
Cambletown. I have a feeling this was a diverted Dubbo speedfreight
heading back to Sydney. I understand the following has been happening
over the last few days due to the trackwork: any freight train heading
west proceeds to the south via Regents park, and down sth to Tahmoor
balloon loop to reverse direction before heading back up to Sydney and
proceeds via the Y link at Granville to head west. I understand that the
line between Cabramatta to Merrylands is open for diesel traction only.
Anyone else know more about these unusual workings ?
Also the Canberra oil train, 1239 was passed at Liverpool at approx.
11:15 also last night behind 42206 and three 48s with about 4 cement
trucks and approx 8 oil tankers in tow. Seemed like excessive power for
a short train.
