Train collision injures 18

Two trains have collided at a station in Melbourne's western suburbs,
injuring 18 people.

Paramedics say most of the injuries appear to be minor although one
woman in a wheelchair was thrown across a carriage.

Ambulance spokesman John Fasham says the accident happened just after
midday AEDT and emergency officers feared the worst.

"They were fearful that there might have been quite a number of injuries
- about 50 people were involved on both carriages," he said.

"Fortunately only 18 reported that they wanted to be assessed by
paramedics at the scene, one person more seriously injured, a young lady
in a wheelchair and she's
been thrown out of her chair, when the impact occurred."
