A post on behalf of Stephen Halgren. Anyone have any further news to add to this ?

John,

I thought the following sighting might be of interest to you and others in "the club" who log in to the web re railway sightings.

This morning, Monday 10 August, NT3, the 0705 Murwillumbah XPT was noted climbing Eastwood Bank from Denistone at very low speed. On passing through Eastwood, it transpired that only one power car, XP2013, was on the train. The load had been reduced from the normal 7 to 6 cars to compensate, with the rear car, an XFH, displaying the mandatory rear end lights etc. It was 5 minutes late at Eastwood and struggling, so I wonder how it got on for the rest of the journey and where it could be turned at Murwillumbah. There used to be a turntable there but I wonder if it still is? Perhaps it is intended to loco haul it back.

Shades of my trip to Dubbo on WT31 during March when only one unit hauled the train, this being XP2004. It lost only 5" each way, a commendable performance.

Regards,

Stephen
