Map WK - New Zealand North IslandThis map covers the rail services in the North Island of New Zealand. The principal services are operated by TranzScenic between the cities of Auckland in the North and Wellington in the South. There is one train each way each day - travelling in daylight hours. The journey is very scenic and the trains are comfortable. TranzMetro also operate trains from Wellington to Masterton and Palmerston North. TranzScenic also operate ferries across Cook Strait connecting the North and South islands. Ferries depart 3, 4 or 5 times daily for the three hour journey from Wellington in the North Island to Picton in the South Island.
