What are Wheel Arrangements?

Wheel arrangements describe the way bogies are configured on locomotives. The standard used with Diesel/Electrics/etc. gives a number of axles a letter (2 axles is B, 3 axles is C) and if the axle is powered, it is given an 'o' prefix. The following are common on QR locomotives, both electric and diesel.
Co-Co The Co-Co arrangement consists of two bogies with three driven axles on each.  O°-O°-O°   O°-O°-O°
A1A-A1A The A1A-A1A arrangement consists of two bogies with two driven axles and one unpowered axles on each. °O-O-O°   °O-O-O°
Bo-Bo The Bo-Bo arrangement is similar to the Co-Co arrangement except there are only two axles on each bogie, with both being driven. O°-O°    O°-O°
Bo-Bo-Bo (or TriBo) The Bo-Bo-Bo arrangement adds just one extra bogie to the Bo-Bo arrangement.
