Both Comeng and Hitachi type Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) sets can be seen running regular suburban services.  Comeng sets run in 3 or 6 car consists, whilst Hitachi units are only run in 6 car consists.

Historical

    The first true 'suburban' services only really began as part of the Electric metropolitan train system.  The first suburban electric trains were the Tait type wooden sets that were originally steam hauled until the overhead wires were erected.
    The tait type carriages were followed by the blue Harris sets, and later the Hitachi and Comeng sets.  This section will be covered in more detail in the future.
