Victorian Country (V/line) services are operated by National Express, a private operator who is contracted to run the service on behalf of the government.  The service to Shepparton was leased to a private operator at a much earlier stage, and is operated by Hoy's Buslines of Shepparton, however they only staff the train, whilst the driver, and train are provided by V/line.

Sprinters - DMU's

Sprinters operate a large portion of the daily passenger services between Spencer Street and Craigieburn/Donnybrook/Seymour.  They run in as a 1 or 2 car consist on this line, while
they can run as up to an 8 car consist.  A Sprinter service used to run as far as Albury, but has since been replaced by a loco hauled train.
