a. To replace allegedly life-expired signalling equipment, e.g. a
pistol-grip interlocking frame about 70 years old.
b. to remove very severe speed restrictions over complex pointwork, by
installing high-speed points.
However a likely effect is
c. to convert a largely excellent and efficient layout into a less
efficient one, in accordance with all the modern principles of
"rationalisation".
We'll see.
